Tara Shine Welcome Video
Hello, I am Dr Tara Shine, one of this year’s Royal Institution Christmas Lecturers alongside Helen Czerski and Chris Jackson.
We are so excited to bring you three lectures about our shared home; Planet Earth.
Our users guide will look at the land, ocean and atmosphere that make our planet work and that make it a good place for us and so many others to live.
While we are concerned about the challenges facing humanity and our planet, from biodiversity loss to climate change, we also have a vision for you to grow up in.
But what other versions of the future exist?
Today we will listen to three alternatives, and extreme, versions of the earth sent to us on postcard from the future.
These are the shiny, green and grey futures.
We want you to dissect, question and debate these alternative realities. What’s positive and negative? And at what cost to whom?
Please remember to listen to each other, and all ideas and thoughts are important and relevant, and we want to hear what you think.
At the end of the day you will have a chance to send you messages to Helen, Chris and myself. Your ideas, your thoughts, anything you want us to hear.
Enjoy your day and we look forward to hearing about the great ideas you have.
